Siemens

Official premium partner

Siemens AG and Deutsche Bahn AG are the two premium sponsors of the European Green Capital 2011. During the year we are thus not only involved in numerous events, but will also primarily support the information pavilion and the “Train of Ideas” with technical equipment and exhibits on electromobility and intelligent electricity networks (Smart Grid).

Why are Siemens and the Green Capital such a perfect fit and what is Siemens doing to protect the climate and environment?

Siemens is not only one of the leading global electrical technology and electronics companies, but also a major provider of “green” infrastructure. One-third of our sales – with a strong upward trend – are already generated through technologies that reduce CO2 emissions and help to protect the climate and environment. We have the most extensive environmental portfolio worldwide.

We also see ourselves as pioneers in the search for – mainly technical – solutions to the major challenges faced by humankind – in keeping with the spirit of our founder Werner von Siemens. Our focus is on addressing the megatrends of climate change, urbanization and ageing populations by finding solutions from virtually all relevant areas of production, transmission and use of energy – whether in buildings, lighting, transportation or industry

Environmental portfolio

Siemens’ environmental portfolio includes some 14,000 patents – an expression of the innovative strength of our researchers and developers. These include products and solutions with exceptional energy efficiency, such as combined gas and steam turbine power plants, energy saving lamps and intelligent building technology, all facilities for the use of renewable energies, including their components – such as wind power and access to the grid or steam turbines for solar energy – and technologies for water treatment and the prevention of air pollution.

The location of Hamburg

Siemens has around 405,000 employees worldwide in 190 countries who are constantly working on finding technical answers to the challenges of our times. In Hamburg alone there are almost 1,300 employees, including 80 trainees. For over 110 years, Siemens has had a branch office in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In addition to sales and service for virtually the entire product and service portfolio, Hamburg is also the European headquarters of its wind energy division. The Siemens Hamburg office is also actively involved in many networks and associations for the development of renewable energy sources and the promotion of energy-efficient technologies at the site.
